SikTh - The Future in Whose Eyes?
Genre: Progressive Metal
Avg. difficulty: 4
If you're into the new wave of progressive metal/"djent" bands, but haven't heard of SikTh yet, you're definitely missing out. Their 2006 album Death of a Dead Day became the blueprint of the sound and songwriting that was rediscovered in the early 2010 American prog metal scene. After disbanding in 2008, and releasing the crowdfunded comeback EP Opacities in 2015, The Future in Whose Eyes? marks the band's first full album after their reunion, 11 years after the release of DoaDD. It's their first album to feature vocalist Joe Rosser, replacing Justin Hill, who left the band in 2016. Besides complex rhythmical patterns and insane grooves that will make your head move along to the beat, the album features Mikee Goodman's typical crazy vocal performances, with him utilizing his vocal cords to the fullest and applying every vocal technique known to man, only to be topped of by Joe Rosser's angelic high voice. The lyrics cover a large number of societal topics, such as depression, gentrification and the exploitation of third world countries.
